In 1963, President Kennedy signed the Equal Pay Act into law. Over fifty years later, U.S. women still earn between 73% and 77% of what a man would earn in a lifetime. Come find out how equal pay for women went from a social movement demand to different levels of public policy, and discuss what the challenges of implementation can teach us about the stubbornness of gender pay inequity.
Speakers: • Congresswoman Suzan DelBene, 1st Congressional District, Washington • Marilyn Watkins, Policy Director, Economic Opportunity Institute & City of Seattle Gender Pay Equity Taskforce • Professor S. Charusheela, UW Bothell
Sponsored by: Law Economics and Public Policy (LEPP) and Washington Women Lawyers. For more information, contact Karrin Klotz, kklotz@uwb.edu or Camille Walsh, cwalsh@uwb.edu.
