The 2009-2010 Law Firm Diversity Report was recently released. Washington Women Lawyers assisted in compiling the Report in cooperation with the other Minority Bar Associations of Washington. The 2009-2010 Law Firm Diversity Report (Report) scores and grades the 50 largest law firms in Washington State on their diversity efforts related to ethnic minority, female, GLBT, and disabled attorneys. This Report is being distributed widely, including distribution to the 50 largest law firms, the three Washington State law schools, in-house counsel, the membership of the Minority Bar Associations of Washington (as well as their respective national organizations), and the media (including the Puget Sound Business Journal).
An error was discovered in the original Report released last Thursday so a corrected Press Release and Report were released on Saturday, June 26, 2010. Attached is a copy of the correct and revised Press Release and Report. Please contact the Law Firm Diversity Survey Committee Co-Chairs at mba.mrc@gmail.com if you have any questions.
Riddell Williams, LLC is sponsoring a Diversity Fellowship This Fellowship includes a salaried summer associate position in addition to a $5000 scholarship to defray tuition and expenses during the academic year.
Help is requested in gathering data on all pro bono programs and neighborhood clinics currently organized by the MBAs to be included in the statewide pro bono directory.
Please find a template that is being used to gather current information on pro bono programs around the state. We would be very grateful if you or someone else involved with your program would take a few minutes to fill out this template and then email it to me at: jaimehawk@hotmail. com.
The completed template will be included in efforts to update the statewide pro bono directory, available at: http://www.advocate resourcecenter. org/oppsguide/.
To provide some brief background information on this effort--at the WYLD Young Bar Leaders Summit in March 2009 with the WYLD Board, MBA boards, and county bar YLD leaders, the need to create/update a statewide pro bono directory was identified as a primary goal and action item. Since that time, there have been various meetings and ongoing efforts to move forward on this need.
The American Bar Association Forum on the Construction Industry is the largest organization of construction lawyers in the United States and abroad. Its 6,000 members are drawn from all areas of practice: large law firms, small firms, solo practitioners, government lawyers and corporate in-house counsel. Members represent all segments of the construction industry: owners, design professionals, general contractors, construction managers, subcontractors, suppliers, insurers and sureties. The Forum’s mission is to serve the construction industry through education and leadership. The Forum sponsors several seminars each year on different topics, and publishes a scholarly journal on construction law topics four times each year, a newsletter three times each year, and several treatises on construction law topics. A Governing Committee elected by the membership governs the Forum’s activities. For all the details and application form, click here.
