This year, WLG is determined to address Sexual Harassment in the Legal Profession. I have worked on women’s and women lawyer’s issues for 40 years in various bar leadership positions; progress has been made, but clearly more needs to be done.

WLG is conducting a national Survey on Sexual Misconduct in the Legal Profession. (www.womenlawyersonguard.org/survey/)

We are looking for responses from women and men throughout the legal profession (e.g., law firm, in-house, government, non-profit, law schools, associations, judiciary, etc.). It’s an important opportunity to make a difference and we hope that employers, individuals and organizations will also use the results of this survey to inform their continued efforts to address sexual harassment and misconduct.

The survey is hosted on a secure site to keep responses completely anonymous and confidential, and does not ask for, nor capture, employer names, or other identifying specifics.

The validity of the survey depends on maximum and broad spectrum of employment and demographic settings.

    1. Could you take the survey and pass it on to as many of your friends and colleagues as possible- especially in non-law firm settings?

Here’s that link you can use to post, and to forward on to others: www.womenlawyersonguard.org/survey/

And here is our website: www.womenlawyersonguard.org.

June 10: Mentoring is at risk of becoming a lost art. At a time when Facebook groups, Slack channels, and alternative means of networking, guidance, and education are on the rise, it's critical to remain relevant to the newest generation of female attorneys, not only to provide support and much-needed resources to budding practitioners, but also to develop future female leaders who will pass the torch to the next generation.

Maddy Martin of Smith.ai will suggest practical tips to enhance your mentorship skills. Click here for a registration link, which you may pass along to others.

Eastside Legal Assistance Program’s 9th Annual Breakfast for Justice will be held on May 22nd and members of Washington Women Lawyers are invited to join us for the event.  During our keynote, we will hear from Monika Kalra Varma, the Executive Director of the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights of the San Francisco Bay Area and I’m sure she will inspire us to recommit to helping those in our community who need us!

For 30 years ELAP has been working to make the legal system more accessible to those most in need by providing free civil legal services to low-income residents of King County and provides brief services and limited representation to survivors of domestic violence who need protection orders and assistance with their legal safety planning. Last year we helped more than 2,500 people with their legal issues.  As the leader in the Bar, I know you realize how important it is to have access to legal assistance to advocate successfully, especially in court.
