The event will be held on Friday, November 14, from 8:45 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Tukwila Community Center in Tukwila, WA.  All are welcome and invited to attend.

I wanted to make sure you received an invitation to our panel and reception taking place on November 17th.  Titled “Serving Justice Through Diversity,” the panel  promises to be a great discussion on the interplay between diversity, the judiciary, and justice. We will be joined by Justice Debra Stephens, Justice Steven Gonzalez and Mr. Ron Ward as panelists and our Executive Director, Barbara Arnwine, will be serving as moderator.

Also, we are currently processing applications for the Judicial Diversity Program (JDP) 2014-15 mentee year. The goal of the program is to educate participants on the importance of judicial diversity, empower participants to advocate for it within the larger community, and shed light on the appointment and election process – this will be facilitated through our monthly workshops, panels, and judge mentors. We hope to invigorate and support a network of potential judicial candidates and the advocates that will support them.

Our deadline for applying was November 1st, however, I have noticed that key segments of the community are not represented in the applicant pool and we would like the mentee class to be as diverse as possible. The ideal candidate is 2-8 years out of college with a commitment to social justice and judicial diversity. If any of your members would make strong candidates please encourage them to apply – we would happily waive the deadline. Application is available online
