    Leonard Feldman has been appointed to the Washington State Court of Appeals, Division One, and is accepting law clerk applications for varying terms depending on applicant interest and availability. Applicants should indicate their date of availability – May 1, 2023 (preferred) or August 15, 2023 – and whether they are seeking employment through August 15, 2023, 2024, or 2025. Applications will be considered on a rolling basis starting immediately. 

    The Court of Appeals handles appeals from Washington courts of general jurisdiction in all areas of law, including criminal, civil, and domestic matters. Judge Appointee Feldman seeks applicants with varied personal and professional backgrounds, who are interested in rigorous legal research and precise legal writing, in a collaborative and collegial environment. Candidates must be law school graduates or have completed the APR 6 law clerk program (or equivalent). Practicing attorneys are encouraged to apply. The current salary for law clerks working in King County is $75,449. Law clerks also receive state employee benefits.

    Salary: $6105– $8216 Monthly

     

    As a Health Law Judge (HE3), you’ll be supporting the Department’s mission to protect public health by providing efficient, fair, impartial, and consistent adjudicative process for all litigants. As a member of the Adjudicative Services Office (ASO), Health Law Judges (HLJs) conduct judicial proceedings and function as presiding officers in cases where the disciplining authority is either the Secretary of Health or one of the various Boards or Commissions, which regulate healthcare practitioners or facilities, Certificate of Need, WIC and other Department of Health programs.

    Required Qualifications.

     

    • Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited Law School
    • Admission to the Washington State Bar Association and in good standing.
    • Three (3) years of litigation, trial practice or judicial experience in the past seven years.

     

    NOTE: Trial practice is defined as frequent appearances as an attorney in a court of general jurisdiction or an administrative law tribunal. Judicial experience is defined as experience as a judge in a court of general jurisdiction or an administrative law tribunal in which the rules of evidence are applied.

    Responsibilities:

    Requirements:

    As our Hearings Examiner you will preside over administrative hearings to adjudicate disputes between licensees and the Department, under Title 46 RCW.  Working under tight deadlines with flexibility and agility you will perform legal research by using electronic research tools, analyze relevant law, and determine the application of law to the facts. You will exercise final decision-making authority when presiding over administrative hearings. As the Hearings Examiner, you will frequently determine the admissibility of evidence, direct procedural protocol, authorize issuance of subpoenas, rule on motions and objections, and consider all evidence and legal argument to determine whether the Department’s remedial sanctions against drivers are lawful.
