    Role Overview

    Stoel Rives’ Seattle Office is seeking an Associate with 1-4 years of experience for its Environment, Land Use and Natural Resources practice. Our associates gain exceptional first-hand experience on sophisticated legal matters through their work with senior lawyers and clients involving a variety of complex and cutting-edge issues pertaining to natural resource management, wildlife, and pollution control laws.

    Deputy Chief Review Judge
    $83,877.00 - $117,323.00 Annually

     

    The Deputy Review Judge will review and issue decisions under their own signature, train new Review Judges, and manage the UI and PFML programs in the absence of the Chief Review Judge.  This position collaborates with the Chief Review Judge on operational issues, legislative matters, and on complex legal matters.

     

    In this role you will train and mentor newly hired Review Judges with a people centered focus, ensuring a cohesive team where all feel valued, and manage an active caseload. Your ability to remain nonpartisan in the cases we decide is essential as you review and issue Commissioner Decisions on select, complex UI and PFML cases under review from the Office of Administrative Hearings.

    Some of what you will do:

    • Provide extensive training to newly hired Review Judges for up to a year.
    • Provide daily consultations and mentoring services to individual Review Judges.
    • Conduct regular training sessions for Review Judges regarding legal analysis and legal writing.
    • Review Assistant Attorney General’s closing statements and memos, making recommendations to the Chief Review Judge on pursuing appeals, consenting to remands, or settling cases.  
    • Consult with and makes recommendations to the Chief Review Judge on operational issues, long-term and short-term strategic planning, legislative matters, and regulatory issues.
    • At the direction of the Chief Review Judge, work closely with external/internal stakeholders on issues of mutual concern, i.e., the Office of Administrative Hearings, the Attorney General’s Office, ESD’s UI and PFML Divisions.
    • With the Chief Review Judge, annually makes final selection of precedential decisions.   
    • Perform duties of Chief Review Judge in Chief Review Judge’s absence.
