Judicial vacancy in the Southeast Division of the King County District Court

The Clerk of the Council's office is readvertising the attached amended notice of vacancy because it was brought to our attention that there was an error in the description of the southeast division, leading the reader/applicant to conclude that only residents of the city of Kent could satisfy the residence requirement.   


Below is the amended notice of vacancy of a position in the Southeast District Court in January 2017. The amended deadline for applications for the position is November 21, 2016.

 AMENDED NOTICEThe Metropolitan King County Council hereby gives notice of judicial vacancy in the Southeast Division of the King County District Court. To be eligible to serve as a district court judge, a person must be a registered voter and legal resident of the Southeast Division’s electoral district. RCW 3.34.060(1); K.C.C. 2.68.075. The election precincts that make up the Southeast Division’s electoral district are set forth in King County Ordinance 18264. A map of the Southeast Division can be found by following the districtcourt map link at http://www.kingcounty.gov/depts/elections/elections/maps.aspx. 

Those interested in applying are asked to submit their name to a bar association with an established judicial candidate evaluation procedure, as provided by K.C.C. 2.70.020.B, or to the Clerk of the King County Council. In addition, each applicant must complete the evaluation process of at least one bar association that performs judicial evaluations consistent with the provisions of K.C.C. 2.70.020.C. The King County Code requires the King County Bar Association (KCBA) to refer to the Council the names of those candidates receiving the highest ratings, including those receiving the highest rating by any bar association that has an established judicial candidate evaluation system. The ratings applications and procedures of the KCBA can be found at http://www.kcba.org/judicial/ratings/ratings.aspx. Candidate evaluations by bar associations must be completed and returned to KCBA no later than 4:30 p.m., Monday, November 21, 2016. The Council shall consider for appointment those candidates referred to it by KCBA

K.C.C. 2.70.020 requires that minority bar associations be notified of vacancies. If your association provides an evaluation process, please inform the King County Bar Association of ratings of candidates as soon as possible.
