Women in the Law: Going First and Going Forward: Seattle



Where have we been and where are we now?  Join our distinguished panel as they discuss what it was like to be the first woman in a particular role in the law.  Our panelists also will provide us their insights into how things have (or have not) changed.






Panelists:

Hon. Carolyn Dimmick: Judge Dimmick’s more than 50-year tenure as a judge has spanned county, state and federal courts. She served as Washington’s first female Supreme Court Justice.

Mayor Jenny Durkan: Mayor Durkan, a former prosecutor, was elected Mayor of Seattle in 2017, becoming the city's first female mayor since the 1920s and the city's second consecutive openly-LGBT mayor.

Kellye Testy: Kellye Testy was the first woman to serve as Dean of both Seattle University School of Law and the University of Washington School of Law. She now serves as the president and CEO of the Law School Admission Council.

Loria Yeadon: Loria Yeadon is the first woman, as well as the first person of color, to serve as CEO of the YMCA of Greater Seattle in its 143-year history.


Moderator/Panelist:

Hon. M. Margaret McKeown: Among her many accomplishments before and after her appointment to the Ninth Circuit bench, Judge McKeown was the first female partner with the law firm of Perkins Coie in Seattle. Judge McKeown currently chairs the Ninth Circuit Workplace Environment Committee.
