SEATTLE – The Legal Foundation of Washington will present the 2012 Charles A. Goldmark Distinguished Service Award to Justice Gerry L. Alexander at the 26th Annual Goldmark Award Luncheon. The luncheon will be held Friday, February 24, 2012 at the Sheraton Seattle Hotel between 12:00pm and 1:30pm.

Justice Alexander retired from the Supreme Court on December 31, 2011 but the spirit and dedication he has brought to the courthouse remain a tangible presence.

Justice Alexander will have served as Chief Justice longer than any other in our state’s history, been instrumental in allowing the first gavel-to-gavel television coverage of Supreme Court hearings in the country, established a traveling Supreme Court in Washington, chaired countless committees dedicated to improving a public court system and lent tireless support to the access to justice movement believing it an essential right of citizens, regardless of their ability to pay.

The Legal Foundation of Washington Board of Trustees is joined by LAW Fund and the Endowment for Equal Justice Board of Directors to recognize Justice Alexander’s commitment to secure justice that is applied equally to the weak and powerful alike.

The Goldmark Award Luncheon is the only statewide opportunity for the Legal Foundation of Washington and LAW Fund to celebrate and honor those whose outstanding accomplishments have had a positive impact on the low-income people of our state.

The Legal Foundation of Washington created the Charles A. Goldmark Distinguished Service Award in 1987 to honor, Chuck Goldmark, a prominent Seattle attorney and the Foundation's second President at the time of his tragic death in January 1986. Chuck Goldmark was keenly interested in access to justice and by presenting this award at the Goldmark Luncheon to an individual or organization that has assisted in providing meaningful access to the justice system, we also honor Chuck’s memory.
