On behalf of the Courts and Community Committee, you are invited to attend the November 15th lunch hour event in honor of Native American Heritage Month: “The Bench Is for All.”  Please see the information below (which is also attached).

We are so pleased to welcome as our keynote speaker Lauren King, recently confirmed to the United States District Court for the Western District of Washington.  Our own Judge Jason Poydras will join Lauren King and Tip Wonhoff (Deputy General Counsel for Governor Inslee) and Aileen Tsao of the Joint Asian Judicial Evaluations Committee to share information about pursuing a career as a judicial officer, including accounts of the federal nomination process, Washington’s gubernatorial appointment process, and the judicial ratings process.

The program is specifically intended to reach Native American law students and practitioners including tribal judges and tribal legal departments.  In addition to our general community including the KCBA and the minority bars in Washington, we are sending invitations through these organizations:

  • NIBA (Northwest Indian Bar Association/Alaska, Washington, Oregon and Idaho)
  • WSBA Indian Law Section
  • NWTCJA (Northwest Tribal Court Judges Association)
  • NALSA (Native American Law Students Association), Area 7 (which includes law students in AK, WA, OR, and ID)

If you wish to attend, please pre-register using the link at the bottom of this email.  You will separately receive an outlook invitation to put the event on your calendar, but you must pre-register to obtain the Zoom link.  The program will also be streamed on TVW.
