The Federal Public Defender for the Western District of Washington is currently accepting applications to its conflict panel, better known as the CJA Panel. We are welcoming applicants to the trial and appellate panels and to the CJA Mentor Program, which provides structured, paid opportunities for seasoned criminal defense attorneys to gain exposure to federal practice. The CJA Trial, Appellate, and Mentor Program Combined Application is available on our website. Applications are due October 20, 2023. Questions may be submitted to jennifer_kaplan@fd.org.

We are hosting a CLE and recruitment event at the Tacoma federal courthouse, 1717 Pacific Ave, on October 3 from 3:30-5pm, with a social hour to follow. Chief Judge David Estudillo, Magistrate Judge Theresa Fricke, Federal Public Defender Colin Fieman, and CJA Panel Administrator Natalie Harmon will participate in a panel discussion about federal criminal practice and CJA work, moderated by Panel Attorney District Representative Paula Olson. 1.5 law & legal procedure CLE credits sought. All are welcome.

We are also hosting a virtual open house for prospective applicants to learn more about the CJA Panel and Mentor Program on October 5 at noon. Here is the Zoom information:
