NJP is seeking qualified candidates to serve as Senior Attorney for its central Washington regional service office located in Yakima.  NJP’s Yakima office serves Yakima and Kittitas counties.   NJP is a not-for-profit law firm that provides free civil legal services to address barriers and promote justice for low-income persons throughout the state. The Senior Attorney is responsible for day-to-day office management and supervision of the local service office.  NJP Senior Attorneys also provide advocacy leadership in the service region and in NJP. 

 

NJP attorneys work together as part of a statewide law firm, and in partnership with other legal aid providers, to bring high quality civil representation to Washington’s low income populations and communities. NJP attorneys are expected to provide counsel, representation and strategic engagement with client communities on a wide variety of substantive law issues that affect the poor. NJP’s Central Washington regional office uses a broad range of advocacy tools to promote justice and access to the courts, preserve low-income housing options, secure health and income opportunities, protect families and victims of crime, and to engage with client and community groups to secure the long-term well-being of the low income communities. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  Minimum five years’ legal experience with strong litigation skills required. Pierce County Prosecutor's Office Misdemeanor Division SALARY RANGE: DOQ County Attorney 1 - $63,629 to $84,387 County Attorney 2 - $77,335 to $104,388 County Attorney 3 - $87,714 to $117,337 closes 5/12   Full-time 35 hours per week with benefits    ABOUT THE OFFICE The Pierce County Prosecuting Attorney's Office, located in downtown Tacoma, is the largest law firm in the county, employing approximately 212 staff including a large number of Deputy Prosecuting Attorneys.  Pierce County, which includes Tacoma, has a population of 813,600 and growing.  The office has three divisions:  the Criminal Division, which is responsible for prosecuting all felony, misdemeanor, and juvenile criminal cases; the Civil Division, which is responsible for providing legal counsel to County officials and representing the County's interest in court; and the Family Support Division, which is an integral part of the State child support system.
Position Summary:
This position performs professional level work in the legal field as a Pierce County Deputy Prosecuting Attorney in the Misdemeanor Division, handling all aspects of District Court criminal practice, from arraignments and pre-trial conferences, to trials and post-conviction hearings.  This is an entry-level position.  Duties are performed with professional discretion and within office guidelines, professional ethics and standards, and legal requirements.  This is an exempt, at-will, temporary position.
