    Hearings Examiner (HE 2)

  • 04/26/2022 3:18 PM | WWL Admin (Administrator)

Seeking a problem solver and team player for a small family law firm based in Tacoma. Advance your career as an attorney and sharpen your litigation skills under the mentorship of our founding attorney, who has over a decade of experience and employs a limited licensed legal technician, associate attorney, paralegals, and additional administrative staff.

Responsibilities include (and are not limited to):

    • Provide legal support to founding attorney including covering hearings as necessary
    • Maintain a full case load of 30-40 clients
    • Achieve your monthly billable hours requirement (85 hours)
    • Conduct 3-5 half hour free legal consultations per week with prospective clients
    • Manage case scheduling and deadlines including scheduling and tracking client appointments, discovery, court dates, etc
    • Check firm calendar to ensure all hearings are properly noted
    • Draft pleadings, proposed orders, settlement offers
    • Draft correspondence to clients and opposing counsel

Our ideal candidate will have about three years of practice. We will consider a recent law school graduate with a bar license, practical clinical or law office experience, and a demonstrated strong work ethic.

The successful candidate will be a self-starter and problem solver capable of producing high quality document drafts with limited supervision, proactively checking in with our founding attorney, and delivering an outstanding client experience to include prompt follow up regarding client concerns, timely court filings and proactive case management, and thorough and careful legal counsel. Our successful candidate will also have solid references and work history and will be prepared to promptly acknowledge tasks and assignments, provide regular feedback to our firm founder, and keep her updated regarding developments on cases until they have demonstrated the ability to independently manage their case load.

Our firm founder warmly welcomes informal short case meetings throughout the day, and loves teaching and mentoring attorneys. You do not need to be an expert in family law, just prepared to work hard and deliver high quality legal services on time with excellent communication within our office and with clients. Your first 90 days of employment consist of a probationary period, with hourly requirements evaluated weekly, and immediate dismissal if hourly requirements and performance standards are not met each week.

Although we have high performance standards, our monthly billable hours requirements are among the lowest you will find at a family law firm (requirement is 85 hours per month), and after your probationary period ends we offer you a generous work-from-home policy (30 percent of your work week), health insurance (we pay half your premium), all court holidays off and bar license fees paid, in addition to paid vacation time and sick leave as required by law. We also offer a generous bonus structure and additional opportunities for compensation in addition to your base salary.
